2025 Review of Business Standards: Four domains

Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council is commencing a review of unit standards in five domains on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards (DASS). We are also commencing the development of skill standards to support new qualifications.

The purpose of the review is to ensure the unit standards continue to be useful and relevant to the sector and that the new skill standards will also be so.

Across the four domains, we are proposing to:

  • expire 30 unit standards that have no or very low usage or which have been superseded
  • rollover 10 unit standards and extend their last date for assessment to 2028
  • review 29 unit standards
  • develop skill standards to support relevant Business qualifications or new product development.

Standard proposed to be expired due to suitable replacement skill standard

This unit standard had high usage in the Level 3 Intelligence programme. Due to the review of the Intelligence standards, the sector now has its own skill standard for risk management.

We would like to hear if any providers have any issue with expiring Unit Standard 18509.

Review process

We propose the review will occur between July and September and be conducted using a variety of methods. This may include face to face and/or online meetings, individual interviews (face to face and online), workshops and email consultation. It is anticipated that national consultation will occur during September, with submission to NZQA for approval thereafter.

We invite industry professionals, educators, and other stakeholders to participate in this review process. Your insights are invaluable in shaping unit/skill standards that truly serve the sector.

Domains that are not being reviewed in 2025

Ringa Hora has completed an analysis that has informed our approaches to review specific domains in 2025. Ringa Hora acknowledges as the New Zealand Certificates and Diplomas in Business Level 3 – Level 6 were reviewed in 2025, standards that support programmes leading to this suite will not be part of the 2025 Business standards review. Instead, these units will remain on their existing planned review date of 31 December 2026.

Domains that will not be review in 2025 include:

  • Human resource Management
  • Project management
