Flight Attendant Skills Standards

Review of Flight Attendant Standards

Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council commenced a review of 14 standards under the Flight Attendant domain 

As part of this review, we are moving to skills standards and have approached our stakeholders who are helping us draft the new flight attendant skills standards. Below, you will see the proposed new skills standards created by combining existing unit standards.   

Combine existing unit standards New proposed titles – draft 
Unit 21840 – Demonstrate knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for service on board an aircraft, level 3, 3 credits 

 

Unit 21841 – Provide food and beverage services on board an aircraft, level 4, 6 credits 

 

Unit 21842 – Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with food hygiene requirements on board an aircraft, level 3, 4 credits 

 

XXX40 – Provide food and beverage services and in-flight passenger service on board an aircraft.  

Level 4, 20 credits  

  

 

 Unit 21843 – Demonstrate ability to manage passengers on board an aircraft, level 4, 3 credits 

 

 Unit 25453 – Demonstrate knowledge of crew resource management on board an aircraft, level 4, 6 credits 

 

 Unit 25455 – Demonstrate knowledge of and apply conflict management on board an aircraft, level 4, 5 credits 

 

XXX41 – Manage passengers and crew onboard an aircraft.  

Level 4, 10 credits  

 Unit 9245 – Identify, as a flight attendant, major aircraft components, level 2, 2 credits 

 

 Unit 21844 – Demonstrate knowledge and use of aircraft safety and emergency equipment, level 4, 3 credits 

 

 Unit 21845 – Carry out in-flight firefighting procedures on board an aircraft, level 4, 3 credits 

 

 Unit 21846 – Manage, as a flight attendant, safety procedures on board an aircraft throughout a flight, level 4, 8 credits

 

 Unit 25454 – Demonstrate knowledge of security risks on board an aircraft, level 4, 4 credits 

 

 Unit 9244 – Demonstrate ability to manage air services emergencies, level 4, 10 credits 

 

 Unit 25457 – Manage aviation medicine relating to aircrew and passengers, level 4, 4 credits 

 

XXX42 – Manage, as a flight attendant, safety procedures on board an aircraft throughout a flight. 

Level 4, 30 credits  

Unit 28390 – Provide air passenger care from point of departure to point of destination on operational flights, level 4, 35 credits   XXX43 – Provide air passenger care from point of departure to point of destination on operational flights. Level 4, 35 credits 

 

Ringa Hora will now prepare the application to be submitted to NZQA for evaluation.
