Hospitality Project

Culinary Koha

Ringa Hora has been working on a project to reform the way competence of culinary practitioners in Aotearoa New Zealand is recognised and assessed. We have built:

  • drafts for a range of qualifications with broadly stated outcomes
  • corresponding draft skill standards covering food preparation and cooking techniques (e.g., emulsification, curing, developing gluten), rather than the execution of specific dishes.

We plan for people to do their learning and be recognised for their skills in a very wide variety of environments, from food carts to marae wharekai, hotels and restaurants, to artisan cafes.

We will shortly display new drafts of qualifications and standards for comment.

Hospitality

The hospitality sector, which is part of the services industry, covers a broad range of fields. This includes food, drink, event planning, and accommodation. Bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, and motels are all part of the hospitality industry.

2023 Revision of Unit Standard 13274 Cook food items by poaching. This standard was revised in August 2023 to extend the last day for assessment of version 5 to 31 December 2024. This was done to bring it into line with the other standards in the Cookery Domain. The new version was published on 30 November 2023. The Review Report is available here.

Beverage and Quick Service Restaurants

Ringa Hora develops and manages on behalf of the food and beverage sector qualifications that recognise and credentialise the skills of helps you do just that by giving your talented people who run the show and impress customers.  Ringa Hora provides qualifications to recognise and build the skills for many different roles, including general manager, duty manager, owner/operator, food and beverage manager, restaurant manager, counter and service staff and barista, plus many of the roles involved in running a kitchen.
