2024 Review of Financial Services Professional Practice Unit Standards

2024 Review of Financial Services (Professional Practice) Unit Standards to develop skill standards

Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council is commencing a review of the following unit standards listed on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards (DASS) during 2024 with the intention of developing skill standards: Link to unit standards

The standards review and development consists of 2 parts.

  • Look to phase out unit standards. As part of the review, we will be settling to expire and replace with skill standards.
  • Develop skill standards to meet the current qualification and skill standards that may be stand-alone to address any skill needs.

Skill standards are intended to be the building blocks of vocational qualifications and some other qualifications and credentials. Over time, skill standards will replace unit standards as the components of vocational qualifications.

Skill standard development

This is an opportunity to bring the sector back together to:

  • learn what skill standards are and how they differ from unit standards
  • how they are used
  • how they are linked to the qualification
  • expectations of the working group/s and consultation group
  • form working groups to work on the standards. (Read expectations of Working Group below)

A meeting was held for those who were interested in learning more about skill standards on the 23rd April 2024.

Please forward your expression of interest to be involved in the working group to [email protected] by Monday 6 May 2024.

Expectations of the Working Group

If you are interested in being part of the working group to contribute to the review and development of the standards:

We propose the review to take place during Quarter 2 and 3 to:

  • ensure the skills, knowledge and capabilities reflected in current unit standards are translated into new skill standards that are useful and relevant to the sector
  • develop new skill standards to fill any gaps identified during the review
  • support the implementation of the RoVE (Reform of Vocational Education) legislation and the Government’s decision to simplify New Zealand qualifications and other credentials.

The review will be conducted using a variety of methods, which may include, face to face and/or online meetings, individual interviews (face to face and online), email consultation, focus groups and workshops.

Each panellist will:

  • have wide expertise, and credibility, and mana within the sector
  • have experience with relevant unit standards
  • understand and be committed to best practice in standards-based assessment
  • be able to work collaboratively for the common good rather than just for own sector or interests
  • be available for the scheduled panel meetings.

Collectively, the panel will, as far as possible, be representative of all stakeholder groups.
