2024 Development of a Storytelling Skill Standard – Level 3

Consultation closed

The draft storytelling skill standard has been developed in collaboration with industry from the services sectors, in particular the tourism sector. However, we are hearing that storytelling skills may be relevant to other industries as well, so we are seeking a broader range of views to help us ensure the standard is relevant and transferable to a range of potential sectors.

We would like to thank everyone who sent their feedback regarding this skills standard. Our consultation period has now ended. Your feedback is being considered and we will share the updated draft skill standard prior to submission to NZQA.

The skills standard draft will be submitted to NZQA for approval in May 2024. Further information will be available soon.

The proposed level 3 skill standard Perform as a storyteller for visitors is available here.  It includes basic skills that a Storyteller needs, like telling coherent stories to visitors, providing manaakitanga, and demonstrating cross-cultural communication to connect with diverse audiences.
