Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council has been working with Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) and the business events sector to develop new credentials that respond to contemporary needs for the business events sector.
The project has been underway since the review of the now expired conventions and incentives qualifications and associated unit standards in December 2023. There have been a range of meetings held since September 2024 to determine the needs of the sector.
The draft new credentials designed to equip people with the skills and knowledge to professionally contribute to planning, project management, and delivery of business events in Aotearoa New Zealand, were submitted to NZQA 14 August 2025 following consultation.
The proposed new credentials submitted to NZQA are listed below:
NZ Certificate in Emerging Business Events Professional (Level 4) (60 credits)
This qualification is intended to provide the business events industry with individuals who can professionally contribute to planning, project management and delivery of business events in Aotearoa New Zealand.
These skill standards have been developed as the building blocks for use in programmes aligned with the qualification. We want to hear from you about how well the skills, knowledge and attributes specified in the skill standards reflect what you believe is required for an emerging business events professional.
The BE1 skill standard is proposed to be at Level 3 as it is intended that it may also be suitable for use in schools as part of raising awareness and/or part of a credential to pathway into the Business events sector, or the tourism qualification.
We will update this webpage as the NZQA evaluation of the proposed new credentials progresses.
