Interactive workshops scheduled for assessors

If you’re a vocational education assessor who wants to know more about the how and why of quality assurance practices, Ringa Hora has a workshop for you in June.

Following an enthusiastically received presentation by Quality Assurance Advisors Erin Lee and Gracie Talamaivao at the Careers and Transition Education (CATE) conference in November, the Ringa Hora Quality Assurance team has decided to take the show on the road.

Five workshops are set to be scheduled in June: one each in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Nelson, and Christchurch. The workshops are open to any assessing organisation.

The idea came from the team identifying common themes through post-assessment moderation.

“We could see the importance of being able to elaborate on the specific assessment criteria that forms the post assessment moderation process,” Gracie says.

“Being able to go to CATE and explain what best assessment practice looks like and why as external moderators we are asking for the things we do was fantastic. It made us realise there was a way we could help with further workshops.”

“I feel like the why was the big thing,” Erin adds.

“Within the workshop we look at the complexities of post-assessment moderation, break down some helpful tips and tricks around assessment best practice, and then have participants apply them to an interactive activity.

“It’s also an opportunity to ask questions and connect with Ringa Hora kaimahi as well as teaching peers.”

Erin and Gracie both come from a teaching background, so they understand many of the questions that assessors they work with have.
