Engagement Recap July-September 2024

In late September, members of our engagement team, Beatrice Faumuinā and Martin Szeko, and qualifications team, Roz Tocker and Diana Garrett, were part of a workshop to develop Te Haeata credentials with Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA), ServiceIQ, Grow Tourism and industry experts.

Te Haeata is BEIA’s Business Events education programme, targeted for those entering the business events sector. It was an amazing day of collaboration, ideas and insights to support the future of the events industry.

The event was held at the All Blacks Experience at Sky City. BEIA gave a special shout out to Beatrice for placing a black sprig to mark the September 21 victory over the Wallabies along with All Blacks legend and All Blacks Experience general manager Ian Jones.

Ringa Hora was proud to be represented at the Aviation Industry Association conference in Christchurch August 25-26 by Bridget Grave, Leo Shen, Jenny Connor, and Allan Moulai.

They presented the Aviation Industry Association New Zealand (AIANZ) Workforce Insights Platform – joint research with Scarlatti and AIANZ – and had a stand where we chatted with attendees and answered questions about building tomorrow’s workforce today. We love working with the aviation industry and really enjoyed our time at the conference.

In August our Retail & Distribution Industry Engagement Lead Duane Mackwood had the privilege to work alongside Beth Nalter and Hayley Gray (HAR) delivering an event at Ara Auckland Airport Jobs & Skills Hub connecting South Auckland students with local employers to better understand the opportunities working in supply chain organisations.

Thank you to Pete Jones of Manurewa High School and Sherelle Kennelly of CBAFF for their organisational support. Massive thanks to the employers, who willingly gave up their time to share their experiences and knowledge of the sector. And saving the best for last… The students from Manurewa High School, Southern Cross Campus, James Cook High School and Papakura High School were eager to engage and learn. They were all outstanding representatives of their schools and communities.

The feedback from everyone involved was positive and we look forward to rolling this type of event out again, potentially in the regions as well.

Industry Engagement Lead Zach Edwards was fortunate enough to hear a range of fantastic speakers in Ōtautahi Christchurch August 15-16 for the AdmiNZ – Association of Administrative Professionals NZ Conference 2024!

Administrative professionals are an integral part of businesses across Aotearoa New Zealand and it’s great that pathways into the profession, as well as development opportunities for those already working, are growing.

Zach picked up some valuable insight to help Ringa Hora with its review of qualifications in Business Administration and Technology to ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet the needs of the profession.

The Hospitality New Zealand 2024 Conference 31 July gave us a fantastic opportunity to learn what’s important in the hospitality industry, and to present some of the insights we have developed along with the industry on the future of the workforce.

Our chief executive Kari Scrimshaw spoke on how to attract and retain people in our industries, while our Council member Loren Aberhart was a judge for the Hospitality Awards for Excellence. Congratulations to all the winners!

We loved having the opportunity to connect with industry members at our stand. Key insights from the conference were that the future of hospitality is bright; that the rapid evolution of technology can allow us to focus more on service through genuine, human-to-human interactions; and that people are focused on experiences rather than things and interested in sustainability, giving back, and knowing the story behind the services they are consuming.
